Jinwei Ye

Jinwei Ye leads the Imaging and Vision Lab in the Department of Computer Science. Her research focuses on developing next-generation computational cameras and displays with unprecedented capacities, such as high speed, high dynamic range, 3D acquisitions or display. Ye’s research aims to design and develop cameras and displays with transforming capacities that benefit society and humanity. For example, her team is working on making cameras that can directly capture 3D or see under low light or rainy/snowy conditions. These research products can be used for a wide range of applications in computer vision, robotics, medical imaging, mechanical engineering, and digital media.

Ye places a high priority on technology transfer and has participated in the NSF I-Corps program to explore the commercialization path for a 3D scanner developed in her lab. Through the program, her team has interviewed many potential partners in the industry (including Apple, Meta, 3M, and Bosch) and obtained valuable insights into their challenges.

Before coming to Mason Jinwei Ye was an assistant professor in the Division of Computer Science and Engineering at Louisiana State University.
