Research Awards

Giorgio Ascoli: 2012 – Outstanding Faculty Award for excellence in research, teaching, knowledge integration, and public service presented by SCHEV, Commonwealth of Virginia. 

Daniel Menascé:  

  • 2001 – A. A. Michelson Award from the Computer Measurement Group, a lifetime achievement award given in recognition of outstanding contributions to computer metrics. (Read the acceptance speech and the citation plaque)  

  • 2017 Outstanding Faculty Award for excellence in research, teaching, knowledge integration, and public service presented by SCHEV, Commonwealth of Virginia. 

Gheorghe Tecuci: 2005 – Volgenau School of Engineering Outstanding Research Faculty Award 

  • 2003 – U.S. Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal, for groundbreaking contributions to the application of artificial intelligence to the center of gravity determination 

Rajesh Ganesan: 2004 – Institute of Industrial Engineers IE Graduate Research 1st Prize Award. The IIE Graduate Research Award promotes excellence in master's level research. The recipients are student members who are candidates for a master's degree in the field of industrial engineering and whose research and resulting thesis have been the most outstanding for that year.

Ariela Sofer: 2016 – Elected INFORMS Fellow. This award recognizes members who have made significant contributions to the advancement of operations research and the management sciences, such contributions including service to the professional field and to INFORMS.  

  • 2022 – Elected INCOSE Fellow for Significant Contributions to Systems Engineering education and advancing the recognition of Systems Engineering in academia.

William Rosenberger: 2011 – Fellow, Institute of Mathematical Statistics. "For major contributions in sequential analysis and clinical trials, involving rigorous treatment of adaptive randomization and response-adaptive design and including the development of a framework for optimal allocations, work that has been accepted by practitioners as the standard in the field."  

  • 2005 – Fellow, American Statistical Association. "For important contributions to the theory underlying the design of clinical trials, particularly response-adaptive randomization, for service on clinical trials monitoring boards, and for excellence in teaching and mentoring."   

Inchi Hu: 2007 – Elected Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS)

Jiayang Sun: 

  • 2005 – Elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA). "For outstanding contributions to statistical theory, application, and interdisciplinary work, particularly in simultaneous confidence regions and multiple testing, bump hunting and biased sampling, mixtures, analysis, and high-dimensional graphics; for innovation in teaching; and service to the profession."  

  • 2005 – Elected Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). "For Contributions to development, dissemination and application of Mathematical Statistics, with the IMS qualification that "The candidate shall have demonstrated distinction in research in statistics or probability, by the publication of independent work of merit. 

  • 2001 – Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI).  

Karla Hoffman: 2002 – Elected INFORMS Fellow. The Fellow Award recognizes members who have made significant contributions to the advancement of operations research and the management sciences, such contributions including service to the professional field and to INFORMS.
