George Mason University’s cybersecurity program—Management of Secure Information Systems (MSIS)—has been recognized as one of the nation’s best on the undergraduate and graduate levels by DARKReading.com.
The web publication, part of InformationWeek, a business and technology trade publication, especially lauded George Mason’s master’s program, noting that it “is specifically designed for mid-career students from both the private sectors and business.”
Program director Kumar Mehta said Mason’s Cybersecurity Program is unique in that it is a joint effort of the Volgenau School of Engineering, the School of Business and Schar School of Policy and Government.
“It is a combination of technology, business process and people,” Mehta said. “The engineers bring the technical side, the business school brings the business process, and then we have the policy side for regulation and compliance.”
The accolade is the latest for the cybersecurity program, which this year was named one of the nation’s 10 best for graduate programs by universities.com.
“Our programs are at the forefront of cybersecurity education through our engagement with the thriving Washington metropolitan-area community and our world-class research,” said Angelos Stavrou, academic director of the MSIS program.
Added Mehta: “It’s been a good year. We’ve been putting a lot of effort and energy into revising the program and making it better because it is such a rapidly evolving domain. It is very rewarding.”
