Wilsaan Joiner, assistant professor in the Volgenau School of Engineering Department of Bioengineering received a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award for his project titled "Probing the Neural Integration of Sensorimotor Signals for Limb Motor Coordination and Perception."
The award is the foundation's most prestigious award and supports junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research. Joiner's award marks the sixteenth CAREER Award earned by a Volgenau School of Engineering faculty member.
"Since joining the department in 2012, Dr. Joiner has been leading a highly productive program of fundamental and translational research in the area of motor control, with high-impact applications to devices and treatments for motor disabilities," said Interim Department Chair Brian Mark. "Dr. Joiner's NSF CAREER award provides well-deserved recognition for his successful research vision and efforts at Mason, as well as solid five-year funding at an important stage of his academic career to support the ongoing activities of his Sensorimotor Integration Laboratory."
