    Kafi Hassan, adjunct professor in the College of Engineering and Computing, recently won the District of Columbia Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies Engineer of the Year Award. This award recognizes engineers that achieve successful accomplishments in advancing the technical and professional aims of engineering and architectural professions.

    Four of the twelve Mason faculty members being honored with Presidential Awards for Faculty Excellence come from the College of Engineering and Computing. They include Giorgio Ascoli, Zhisheng Yan, Jonathan Auerbach, and Shvetha Soundararajan.

    Mason researchers Jeffrey Moran in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Rémi Veneziano in the Department of Bioengineering, and Monique van Hoek, a microbiologist in the School of Systems Biology, won the NBIB R21 Trailblazer award. The team will research methods to dissolve harmful biofilms.

    Professor Andre Manitius, of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), received The David J. King Teaching Award at the university’s Celebration of Teaching Excellence on May 2. This award is given annually in recognition of a sustained impact on the excellence of teaching and learning at George Mason University.

    The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the election of Giorgio Ascoli, University Professor, in the Department of Bioengineering at George Mason University to its College of Fellows. Ascoli was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the AIMBE College of Fellows for outstanding contributions in the development of open-access resources for data science in the investigation of learning, memory, and neurodegeneration.

    Professor Amarda Shehu of the College of Engineering and Computing’has been named a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows “for pioneering contributions to computational biology and bioinformatics.”
