Due to the anticipated heat, students will NOT be processing. Rather they will enter through the large loading dock doors and find their degree program signs on the floor.

Meet our Degree Celebration speakers
Kevin Edwards
Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer
Bechtel Corporation

Kevin Edwards is responsible for developing a vision, strategic Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) roadmap, and enterprise plan to implement key program actions to support progress in DE&I efforts at Bechtel. This often includes programs to advance diverse talent within leadership roles; talent acquisition process updates to drive intentional and deliberate actions to improve opportunities for existing and new early career diverse talent, and cultivating work or learning environments that encourage and support diversity and inclusive practices.
Before leading diversity and inclusion, Edwards led the Quality and Six Sigma Infrastructure functional team and other Corporate EPC quality roles. Prior to his quality assignments, he was field engineering manager (PFE) for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project in Virginia. He has also served in roles including lead field engineer, lead resident engineer, and project engineer.
Kevin has a Master of Engineering in environmental engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Rutgers University.
Kelly-Ann Downer
Cyber Security Engineering, BS '22

Kelly-Ann Downer’s Mason journey is but just one example of the diversity and international representation in the student body at George Mason University. In the fall of 2018, Kelly-Ann left her parents, Paul and Carolyn, and three sisters, Camille, Kimberley, and Kathryn behind in Jamaica to begin her college experience at George Mason University on a full scholarship.
Throughout her four years at Mason, Kelly-Ann has proudly displayed her green and gold spirit as a member of Mason’s women’s track and field team as a long sprinter primarily competing in the 400m. Her competitive spirit and drive have allowed her to contribute multiple points to the team’s A10 championship status.
Kelly-Ann also served in the leadership roles as the membership chair and vice president for the National Society of Black Engineers. She lives by the motto “Hard Work Always Pays Off” and that is why today, Kelly-Ann Downer is receiving her Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security Engineering. Her time at Mason will not come to an end just yet, however as she will continue in her studies this fall en route to completion of her master’s degree in Digital Forensics.
